I have a story

Today I wanted to ride my bike in the beautiful weather. So I took a nap after church and ate lots of fruits so I could have enough energy for my highly anticipated ride. I woke up at 5 p.m feeling refreshed and ready to face the WORLD (more like the street of Colima). I went to the backyard to get my bike and noticed that the back wheel was completely flat...again..for the third time...this month. BUT, i didn't want that to stop me from my plans. So i filled her up with air. I knew that i wasn't getting to the root problem and that there was a hole somewhere on that wheel. I didn't feel like fixing it so i just added a few extra pumps of air just to be safe....this relationship i have with this wheel is like an unhealthy relationship. I know that there a deep issue at hand, but I don't want to deal with it so i just fill it up with air because i am determined to do what i want to do, and get where i want to go, regardless of the unsafe circumstances. So i petal off into my neighborhood, feel high and mighty. Within a block it becomes hard to petal and there are all these bumps and shakes going on. Then finally out of no where BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!! my wheel explodes from too much air and pressure. I had no option but to get off and walk my bike and I back home. On the way home i realized that this whole scenario is truly a picture of how Jesus gives us wake up calls when we try to fill our issues with air and ignore the deep underlying problem. By the grace of God my wheel popped while i was in a quiet neighborhood and just a block away from home. If i had gone further, i would have had more steps to retrace to get back home.

lesson learned Jesus. Do not be stubborn. Get to the root of the issue before you head off on a journey.

and also...fix your bike when needed. Do not lag.

whew.

now i will go and drive to the gym. :)

A reflection of my hike at Catalina during Spring Break. I did not realize how much I enjoyed it until now. I am so glad that I decided to step out of my box and go on the hike. Even though my thighs are still sore.

The trail goes from wide to narrow in an instant. Before I know it I am deep into the trail and no level ground is in sight. My eyes are filled with images of burnt trees left over from a recent fire. The new flesh is breaking through the old charcoaled bark. I can’t decide if it is beauty or tragedy that I see.
So, instead I stare deeply toward the ocean below, past the rejuvenating trees and see a glimpse of the cold steel buildings of Los Angeles. A symbol of life at home. A chill of anxiety runs through me. I am not ready to be thrown back into reality. I want to stay until a renewed spirit breaks through my old charcoaled soul.

Guarding my Heart

I am learning that God honors our small attempts to follow him. I know that He is going to give me a future that is more abundant than I can even imagine.

"For this slight momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look NOT THE THINGS SEEN but the things that are unseen. For the things seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal." 2 Cor 4:17-18

I have less than 2 months before I head out to Los Angeles for my mission trip. I know it will be life changing. I know that life after my trip will truly be the test.

I want deeper roots in Faith.
